An 18th century French Louis XVI wall paper- Papier Peinte panel framed in a period hand carved and water gilt wood frame. French, circa: 1765-1775. Measuring Site/Image: 25.75" by 20.75" and the frame being a total of : 29" by 24".
The scene which is complete and not a fragment most likely was an over door panel. It depicts a gentleman leading two female maidens upon horses among a lush and lavish landscape.
Original condition quite good with color still rich and pure. The panel is framed within a hand carved gilt wood frame of the same period. The frame shows signs of age but still bears most of its original gilding. There is an old hairline crack bottom edge of frame showing old restoration but it is sound and stable and does not affect the overall beauty of the item. |
